My name is Dawn Kalgren. I live in NH with my husband. We have two children and two Siberian Huskies.
I feel a calling to this ministry and empathize in a special way with moms suffering the loss of their babies because I have had troubled pregnancies myself. I have been pregnant 5 times and am blessed with two children who are alive and healthy. I suffered two early miscarriages (12 week and 9 week) and a stillborn daughter we named Ashley. It’s in her name that I do this ministry.
Delivering Ashley was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Walking out of the hospital without her was awful. Going through a D&C with the early miscarriages and leaving without anything was terrible as well. I would’ve loved having something in memory of the babies I lost. I decided it was important to me to help as many parents as I can with memorial items so they know that their babies were important and that no matter what stage the loss was, it matters. Having something tangible means so much to these parents who don’t get anything at the hospital.
I designed a small fleece heart and continue to donate them to many hospitals around the country. These hearts were designed to give to moms who suffer an early miscarriage. I’ve found moms that have a loss at any stage cherish these small hearts. Upon request, I can even embroider a name on the heart for those who knew the gender and named their babies.
